During storm force winds, a large mature tree toppled and totally destroyed our client's outbuilding and brought down a NIE power line.

The extent of the damage was such that the outbuilding and adjacent coal store had to be demolished and rebuilt.

In the rebuild which followed, only the front and rear walls survived from the original structure.

Case details

Our client's car, which had been parked close to the rear elevation of the property, went on fire. The fire spread to catch the oil tank and then the main dwelling. Fortunately, our client got out of the house before the fire took a firm hold.

Despite the best efforts of the local Fire Brigade, the house and home contests were destroyed.

Burst pipe, Lisburn

Case details

As a consequence of a serious burst pipe below the concrete floor, water spread and soaked almost every wall in the property.

To remedy this correctly, the client had to be moved into temporary accommodation whilst all walls were stripped back, professionally dried out, plastered and redecorated. All floor surface finishes and joinery work had also to be changed.

With the leak traced and fixed and having explained everything to the Insurer, our Surveyor proceeded to compile & submit the necessary building repair schedule. Once approved by the Insurer, it was essential to:

  • Have the home owner moved into alternative accommodation and the home contents taken to storage
  • All floor and wall finishes stripped back and the rooms professionally dried.
  • Once certified as dry, it was then necessary to replaster the walls, renew the floor finishes and then complete all joinery and redecoration work.
  • Finally, all contents were returned and the Insured was back home within 6 months
